UPDATE (8:40 p.m. Thursday, June 27) – The death of a kayaker on the Ohio River in Mason County is now under investigation.
The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources tells 13 News that they believe he was killed when his kayak and a barge collided.
DNR Officials tell 13 News the man was 51 years-old.
Crews are expected to be on the scene for a few more hours.
The incident happened around 5:30 Thursday evening in the river along Hoffman Park Drive/California Street in Hartford.
UPDATE (6:34 P.M. Thursday, June 27) – One person has died after an incident on the Ohio River.
According to the New Haven VFD, the incident happened in the river along Hoffman Park Drive/California Street in Hartford around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire department says the person is male, but no further information is being released at this time.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and US Coast Guard are en route to investigate. The New Haven and Mason volunteer fire departments, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police and Mason County EMS are responding.
HARTFORD, WV (WOWK) – First responders are heading to the scene of an injury on the Ohio River in Hartford.
According to the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department, the incident happened in the area of Hoffman Park Drive/California Street in Hartford. New Haven VFD says they’ve had conflicting reports of what caused the incident.
There is no word on how many people are injured or the extent of injuries at this time.
The New Haven and Mason volunteer fire departments and Mason County EMS are on scene.
