FLOYD COUNTY, KY (WOWK) – It’s been nearly two years since three police officers and a K-9 were killed in an ambush shooting in Floyd County. The anniversary serves as a painful reminder for the community of Allen where the ambush happened.
However, community members came together Friday, June 29 to make sure the memories of those officers’ bravery will never be forgotten.

A monument has been built to honor the officers – Prestonsburg Police Captain Ralph Frasure, Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy William Petry, and Prestonsburg Police Officer Jacob Chaffins and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Drago.
The monument also pays tribute to all branches of first responders. It reads:
“Ordinary men who faced extraordinary circumstances and acted with courage, honor and self-sacrifice.”

Saturday will mark the second anniversary of the June 30, 2022, ambush. Frasure, Petry and K-9 Drago passed away that night. Chaffins was taken to a hospital where he passed away on July 1, 2022.
