IRONTON, OH (WOWK) — A local athlete has placed first on the national stage once again.
Ironton’s McKenzie Long won the women’s 100 meter Friday in the Paris Olympic trials.
Born and raised in Ironton, Long has worked her way to becoming a three-time NCAA national champion, and Friday night, she ran the 100 meter in Eugene, Oregon, to earn a spot on the Team USA roster for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Long crossed first, posting the time 10.94, followed closely by Aleia Hobbs at a time of 10.97. She also just signed a deal with Adidas, which she says the three stripes represent her three national titles.
You can catch Saturday’s semifinals at 8:58 p.m. EST on Peacock.
