CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – School’s out for the summer, but that’s not stopping students from sharpening their skills.
Barboursville Middle School is hosting its hobby camps and Visionary Stem and Literacy Academy this week. Students take part in tons of new activities such as archery, sewing, cooking and baking.
The camps offer kids an opportunity to try something new without the cost of new equipment. Friday’s lesson was archery! One young new archer tells 13 News it’s important to learn wilderness skills like archery.
“It’s a good wilderness skill to know how to shoot a lone arrow if you ever get stranded on some type of island,” said Katy Sowards, 6th grader at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School. “It’s always a good wilderness skill to have if you know how to make a bow and arrow, if you know how to shoot one.”
The theme for this year’s camp is the “Science of Mysterny,” highlighting the importance of math and science.
