Organizers say besides the good, clean fun of the tournament, this event helps show everyone involved in the recovery process is on the same team.
“What we’re trying to do today is build some positive connections and show them that people do care about them,” said Will Thompson, US Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia. “It’s a beautiful weather day. We’re going to sit, and [I] think we got some picnic food available as well. And it’s just a wonderful opportunity to show that we’re all part of this community, and we’re all trying to make this community a better place.
Those playing in the tournament say they hope events like this help take some of the stigma away from recovery.
