ROANE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A local fire station is mourning the loss of one of its own this week.
The Clover-Roane Volunteer Fire Department says Assistant Chief Stephen Cale, Jr. passed away suddenly this weekend. His unit number for the station was 202.
Cale’s fellow firefighters remember him as an “active and reliable” member of their station. They say he had been part of the Clover-Roane VFD for 24 years.

“Please keep our department and the first responders of our community in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this sudden loss,” the fire department said on social media.
The department’s fellow first responders from the Arnoldsburg VFD and Elizabeth-Wirt VFD also shared their condolences.
“‘Stevie’ (as we called him) was always available when we needed mutual aid or anything else from Clover. He will be deeply missed,” the Arndoldsburg VFD said.
