SRINAGAR:The Jumat-ul-Vida (past Friday of Ramadan) congregational prayers at Kashmir’s grand mosque – Jamia Masjid in Srinagar – has been disallowed by the authorities on Friday.
Witnesses explained that the mosque was closed for worshippers whilst authorities prevented the mosque’s handling system from creating preparations for Jumat-ul-Vida prayers on Friday early morning.
In the meantime, Mirwaiz Kashmir Umar Farooq was also set under property arrest on Friday morning and no just one was allowed to appear in or go out of the residence.
Protection personnel also stopped media people from entering Mirwaiz’s residence in Nigeen locality of Srinagar following he identified as a push meeting on Friday early morning.
A spokesperson of Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid, the running human body of the historic mosque situated in Nowhatta locality of downtown Srinagar, explained that the authorities locked the major gates at 6 am on Friday, quickly immediately after the early morning prayer session was over.
“They put padlocks on the gates of the mosque and explained to us that Friday prayers will not be authorized. They did not give any purpose in creating,” said the Anjuman-e-Auqaf spokesperson.
