CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Sydney Moore is going into her 5th year as a baton twirler with the Marshall Thundering Herd Spirit Squad and her 3rd year as a professional wrestler. On Saturday, she’ll enter the wrestling ring as “Reese Ramone” for the Regatta Pro-Wrestling Women’s Championship at the City Center at Slack Plaza.
You may think that these two sports couldn’t be further apart, but Moore said that the transition between the two is seamless.
“They just kind of interwork with each other, the performance, stamina, all of that stuff. Presentation has been such a big thing, and I even bring my baton out to the ring, so I kind of mesh them together,” Moore said.
Moore knew she wanted to be a professional wrestler when she was in Junior High School.
“In 8th grade they had me write a letter to myself for when I graduated High School. I said I wanted to go to College, and I also wanted to train for professional wrestling. For a long time, I thought it wouldn’t happen. Then, I got word that a school opened in Ironton, Ohio,” Moore said.
Moore began training at the Failure to Conform Wrestling Academy in the Spring of 2021. Since then, she has traveled state to state, working for multiple professional wrestling promotions. Moore said that she has found success just being herself, to a larger scale.
“I just did myself times ten, bigger, larger than life. Performance, that’s all I’ve known my whole life, and that’s what I’ve brought into wrestling,” Moore said.
The Sternwheel Slamboree starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Along with Moore’s championship match, five other matches will be held, including a Men’s Regatta Championship match between Josh Williams and Troy Parker.
