UPDATE (3:30 p.m. on June 29, 2024) — The suspect in the fatal shooting the occurred in Huntington Friday night has turned himself in, according to Huntington Police.
Deonte Joplin, 25, of Matewan, turned himself in to West Virginia State Police in Mingo County sometime in the afternoon. Huntington Police had obtained an arrest warrant for 1st degree murder.
He is currently being held in Southwestern Regional Jail, according to the WV Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation website.
UPDATE (12:16 p.m. on June 29, 2024) — Huntington Police have confirmed that one person died after a shooting incident in Huntington Friday night.
While the name of the victim has not been released, police have said that it was a 40-year-old male who was shot and killed outside an apartment. No arrests have been made at this time.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Huntington Police at 304-696-4420 or the tip line at 304-696-4444.
HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) — Huntington Police are investigating after one person was shot.
Dispatchers say it happened in the 2000 block of Buffington Aveune Friday night around 9:40.
The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known at this time.
